Friends of NRA- What you might or might not know

How would you like being involved with perhaps one of the most fun and productive fund-raisers ever? I have an easy way for you to make a real difference in the future of the shooting sports and shooting sports education. Attend a Friends of the NRA Banquet, it is that simple. This group of dedicated people are out here doing one thing, raising money for the shooting sports and shooting sports education. Period nothing else.
Several years ago I became involved in teaching and instructing about the shooting sports and now I do this on several different levels. One of the areas that always intrigued me was the funding of shooting sports programs and where this funding comes from. Any organization that interested in providing shooting sports education and training face the same common problem, and that is the funding to get their program started and where to go to get help. There are several organizations that offer funding grants, but none so much as The Friends of the NRA.
The Friends of the NRA is a comprehensive group of volunteers who form committees around the nation and their sole purpose is fund-raising in their state. All work preformed by the committees and all fundraising activities performed happen without one cent coming out for administration or other fees. What this means is the money raised goes right back into the program with half the money staying at the state level and the other half going to the national committee for use at the national level. All the money regardless of state or national goes to fund shooting sports and shooting sports education programs. At the state level, a state committee reviews and awards the grants and the state committee has final say to what grants fall under that states parameters. All items awarded through the grant process are for use by the club or organization who received the grant for as long as needed or until the club or organization fails to exist.
Just to give an example of the effect these hard-working people have, the state of Missouri Friends of the NRA committee in 2012 gave out grants amounting to over $350,000. I will say it again over $350,000 in grants in 2012, in the sate of Missouri alone. That also means over $350,000 went to the national committee for their grant process also. That is over $700,000 from the state of Missouri has gone into the shooting sports and shooting sports education in 2012. A brief history about the Friends of the NRA. The very first Friends of the NRA Committee met in Columbia MO in October of 1992, and in 1993 held the first ever Friends of the NRA Banquet. Since that time Friends of the NRA Committees across the nation have raised over 200 million dollars. In Missouri alone since 1993 the Friends of the NRA Committees have given out grants in excess of 2,7000,000 effecting over 430 grants.
An example of the groups who have received funding grants over the years includes but is not limited to, 4-H Shooting Sports, Boy Scouts of America, Royal Rangers, Missouri Department of Conservation (for hunters ed programing etc), Missouri Youth Hunter Education Challenge, Eddie Eagle, FFA, JROTC and the list goes on and on.
All you have to do as a Like Minded Citizen is attend a banquet and be a part of this great program. An easy way to find a banquet and become a part is by going to http://www.friendsofnra.org and checking your state to see when the next banquet is. The website has information for contacts and includes the ability to buy tickets on the web-site or contact your state NRA Representative.
